Available in a variety of sizes, colours and species, engineered hardwoods are made of several layers of wood that are glued together under heat and pressure in a cross-grain construction. This process makes engineered hardwood stronger than a single piece of solid wood, less likely to be affected by changes in humidity and it’s also more structurally sound – it won’t buckle, gap, cup or twist.

Popular for their rich beauty and durability, solid hardwood floors can generally last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Solid hardwood flooring is used from a single piece of wood, which is then split into various slabs (longitudinal) to fit into each other at the tongues and grooves. The most common thickness is ¾” and the optimum plank width for solid wood flooring shouldn’t generally exceed 5”, depending on the finish type.
